The Blood & Sand cocktail was named after the black & white film by the same name staring silent film super-star Rudolph Valentino. One of the few classics to be made with blended Scotch whisky, Rudolph once noted that the cocktail would be remembered long after him… he may have been right. This variation on the original recipe calls for Johnnie Walker Blue Label blended Scotch whisky. Expensive, yes… worth it… ABSOLUTELY! Share this recipe and make one tonight!!
BLUE-BLOOD & SAND
¾ oz Johnnie Walker Blue Blended Scotch whisky
¾ oz Carpano Anitca Formula sweet vermouth
¾ oz Cherry Heering
¾ oz freshly squeezed blood orange juice
Glassware: Coupe
Garnish: Blood orange twist
Method: Combine all ingredients in a mixing tin. Add large cubes of ice, shake vigorously, and taste for balance. Double strain into the serving glass, garnish, and serve.
Boston shaker? Or is mixing tin okay?
Until our next cocktail together…
Bottoms up!
